1998
In 1998, members of Ikeja Church of Christ who lived within Ojota district of Lagos State made a proposal to the church to plant a congregation of the Lord’s church in Ojota. The church considered the proposal and set up a committee to assess the feasibility of planting the new congregation. Three Brethren (Ime S. Akpan-afaha, Felix Ekanem and Bokime Bassey) were subsequently interviewed by the committee after which the proposal was adopted. Formal approval for the new congregation was given by the church a month after the committee’s recommendations.
These members, who, because of distance and convenience of weekly fellowship, had formed themselves into a zonal group, called Zone 4, took the bull by the horn and set about providing a place of worship for the church. Despite the odds that prevailed, these brethren committed their time and resources to rent an apartment and provide the worship service requirements that were necessary for the take off of the new congregation.

The Church
The church is the body of Christ; Jesus is the head of the body. The church is also called the “Bride of Christ,” and she is subject to His authority, as revealed through the Scriptures. The church is the primary vessel that God uses to call people and purify them for eternal life. Members of the church are commanded to fellowship with one another daily and partake in communion weekly in order to remember the works, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The mission of the church is to further the work of Christ on Earth. The church derives her doctrine for worship from the New Testament Scriptures.
Churches of Christ are autonomous, non-denominational congregations that submit only to Christ as the head of the church and the Bible as God's authoritative word.
Ojota Church of Christ is not a part of any denomination. Rather, we are a body of Christians who have been baptized by immersion in water to worship God according to the New Testament pattern, and who renounce human doctrines, creeds and affiliations. We believe that Christ is the owner and the head of the church (Acts 20:28; Eph. 1:22-23). Members are called and added to the church by the Lord (Acts 2:47). The church practices the essential elements of New Testament worship, derived from the New Testament Scriptures. She is called by the same names that were used to describe the people of the Lord in the apostolic days. The only unit of organization of Churches of Christ is congregational.
